S&P 500 Closes Down 0.3% After 3 Days of Gains; Tesla Closes Flat

The latest US inflation data came in weaker than expected, reinforcing expectations for future rate cuts by the Federal Reserve. Meanwhile, preliminary results of a trade agreement between the US and China led to a lower close for US stocks on Wednesday.

The S&P 500 opened higher but closed lower on Wednesday, snapping a three-day winning streak, down 16 points or 0.3% to close at 6,022. The DJIA finished down 1 point at 42,865. The Nasdaq dipped 99 points or 0.5% to close at 19,615.

Tesla (TSLA.US) closed flat. CEO Elon Musk privately called US President Donald Trump late Monday night and later publicly expressed regret over his earlier dispute with him, report told.

China is reportedly set to supply rare earths to the US, leading to a decline in US rare earth stocks. USA Rare Earth (USAR.US) fell off 2%, and MP Materials (MP.US) sagged about 6%.

NVIDIA (NVDA.US) will collaborate with the EU to build 20 new AI factories. CEO Jensen Huang stated that quantum computing has reached a turning point, leading to a rise in quantum computing stocks. Rigetti Computing (RGTI.US) rallied 11%, and Quantum Computing (QUBT.US) rocketed 25%.
